a winter wonderland
ice-layered trees
sing for joy
unveiling their frailty,
revealing their beauty,
and declaring their
devotion
to the Son
“Momma, I don’t feel like myself today.”
We all have days when we feel out of sorts. A Sunday morning at home always leaves me feeling like something is missing. Due to the snow and ice, the girls had been home from school for a week, and we were all going a little stir crazy. And then church was cancelled, too. That, alone, always leaves me feeling a bit “off”.
“Baby, neither do I…” I lovingly told my daughter. “We are all a little stir crazy and out of our normal routines.”
Since church was cancelled, I decided to take a long walk. The girls and I bundled up and headed out. We didn’t say a word to each other. We walked in silence as we took in the ice-transformed landscape. All we could hear was the sound of ice crackling, water dripping, and birds singing. It was nature’s symphony, and it was breathtakingly beautiful.
I am so thankful that I don’t have to be at church to be in His presence. I am thankful that I don’t even have to utter a word to spend time with Him. It’s usually me that’s doing the singing on Sunday mornings- what a treat it was to hear His creation singing for joy! It was the perfect time for me to be still and silent before Him. He knows just what we need to feel His peace again. He is always faithful to meet us wherever we are- and He did just that on our ice-walk!
Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;
let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.
Let all creation rejoice before the Lord…
Psalm 96
Nature’s symphony is a beautiful song that I’m afraid most people neglect to listen to and feel. Great message about getting back to that and how exhilarating it really is!

I didn’t go to church yesterday because of the cold temperatures and a sinus infection on top of bronchitis. Something just doesn’t feel right when we don’t have that opportunity, but you were able to find Him in nature and enjoy your outside visit with Him. What a joy!

I am sorry you are sick! That is definitely a good reason to stay home! There is nowhere I’d rather be on a Sunday than at church, leading worship, and being with my family in Christ. But it is also nice to remember that I can worship wherever, whenever- because He is always here 🙂 Praying you get well quickly!

I’m taking antibiotics so am on the mend. Thanks for your concern. Our church has a live broadcast of the service, which I watched, but it’s not the same.

It’s so beautiful to read how you were able to sit with not feeling right, and even embrace it. Lovely that you and your daughter could speak this feeling. We have a code word we use “discombobulated”! Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures in God’s creation.

Thank you for your kind words 🙂 “Discombobulated” is the perfect word for how we felt! I hope that my girls will always feel comfortable enough with me to share how they are feeling. I am sure there will be plenty more of those days to come! God Bless!

I love going for a walk in the forest after an ice storm. It looks magical. Yes it is in nature that we come closest to our Beloved

It really does look magical! And when the sun comes out, the ice doesn’t stay around too long on the trees. It really is awesome to think of all the beautiful things He creates for us to see here on earth!

Thank you, Lorrie! I knew we had to get out of the house before we all went crazy, lol! It was worth all the effort of bundling up- the trees were just gorgeous!! Hope your day has been awesome 🙂

Really beautiful words and photo. Sometimes the best “church” is outside of the sanctuary and under the Son. I can definitely relate to your “ice walk” 🙂
